Vice-Minister for Environment visits Mangrove Replanting sites supported by P&S Program
P&S Natural Resource Management Marine Officer Cremildo Armando and implementing-partner AENA staff welcomed the Mozambican Vice-Minister for Environment during her recent visit to Moma district earlier this month. Her Excellency visited two mangrove replanting sites and learned about replanting methodology from representatives of P&S supported Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) Committees who are leading the initiative.
Previously deforested by members of the very same communities, the Vice-Minister expressed her satisfaction in seeing this positive example of communities becoming involved in and, in turn, benefiting from managing their natural resources.
Her visit served as a great opportunity for P&S to share with government the elements and strategy of the program and detail our approach of empowering and enabling communities to be principal actors in resource management through the establishment of NRM committees anchored within a larger representative system of management blocks.
In a final interview, the Vice-Minister stated that she hoped to see this replicated in communities elsewhere in Mozambique; where citizens become better stewards of their environment.
This also is our hope as we move forward with NRM committee establishment and development.
